So practice went okay for the first two weeks, what we did was mostly receive new scores for the songs to be played and i was busy tabbing out basslines as foo only gave out s for mostly violin and piano. For Matsuri the bassline was easy as hell so i could figure it out just by hearing the song, but Setia had something kinda melodic and at first i had no bloody idea what to play as foo being the lazy bitch she was didnt bother giving me any bass notes so i eventually figured it out by looking at the electone player's left hand and playing what she was playing. xD Yeah this year's orchestra was so much different compared to last year, mainly because mr koh left and foo who didnt bother tabbing out the notes for all the intruments in the orchestra, while mr koh took the time to tab out the notes for EVERY SINGLE INSTRUMENT there was, so most of us had to improvise and got shouted at for not figuring things out quickly enough.
Anyway as i said earlier for the first two weeks practice was mostly okay, but things started getting nasty in the second week. Well for me anyway. :P Apparently being the bassist i'm supposed to be playing a very important role as i'm supposed to be supporting the entire orchestra, so every time something went wrong, i.e. the whole orchestra went too slowly or quickly that bitch would pin the blame on me. Like for example the school song. Like when foo's incompetent hearing told her that the whole thing went too slowly, she would say that i was dragging the entire orchestra down as everyone was supposed to be following me, but the thing is that i was following them. So then i played a little faster the next time, but then i was out of time as they were playing at roughly the same speed as before because, as i discovered, this orchestra doesn't follow the bassist's tempo. Which is why i do not see the point of adjusting my tempo if the whole orchestra is out of time. So then foo is like 'Shum what are you playing you're completely out of time!!!' So the next time i play slower and she's like 'yes this speed is good' and i'm like 'WTF this is exacly the same speed as what i played the last time!!!!' So this happened like over and over again. Lol.
Well anyway i had my fun pissing her off by idly fingering my bass whenever i felt like it. xDDDDDD My god you should see the way she smiles when she's talking to mrs chan. Really makes you feel like punching her in the face. And the way she quickly looks for a scapegoat when something supposedly goes wrong when she's entertaining somebody seemingly important. And the way she calls me when any 'technical problems' arise. Like i'm tech support or something. Our IB conducter, Ju Anne is so much better, such that i'm only really serious when she's conducting the orchestra. xD Kudos to her for getting student of the year.
Then there was Jobo's party, but you can read about that on other people's blogs. Oh and on the way back i saw a Lamborghini Gallardo. Yeap. Real fine piece of Italian engineering.
human skulls collected during war hanging from a ceiling in the cultural village
After the cultural village it was lunch, then off to the airport. When we got back a few of us had dinner at the curve. People there were richard, kok wai, don, joel, benjamin(4W), genna, wengyee, trixie, puiyi, melissa and myself. We ate at this pancake place whose name i cant remember, but the food was different(pancake based), but good. Gotta go back there to try out the rest of the stuff on the menu. xD

Say 'No' to Unprotected Sex....xD
The whole thing was okay overall, maybe a bit fun, but as this was the first workshop for the HELP people, we went through roughly the same AIDS awareness thing as the one in school, except that this time we were taught how to be facilitators. We got this really thick manual that contained all the info needed to teach others stuff about AIDS, besides being taught how to handle classroom situations and things like that. Oh, and this is the only workshop i've been to that serves decent food! xDDDDD
On Sunday after the whole thing was over i went to check out Pavillion with my cousins and aunties. We used my aunty's Toyota Camry, the latest one, and that car is really big and comfy with fantastic Japanese built quality, bigger and better than the previous generation one, so no surprise there as to why it's the best selling car in the States. I don't see the point of buying a C-Class when you can get something as good as this for half the price...xD
As for Pavillion itself, the layout is pretty similar to KLCC, and for now there are so few food stores open so that on that night all the restaurants were filled to the max and we had to go eat somewhere else. Didn't really have much time to look around but i know that the new Parkson is huge! Most of the shops here are selling clothes, and there are a few new electronic and hardware stores which i'm gonna check out soon.
Btw, some asshole who couldn't keep his hands to himself just had to scratch the side of the Honda City when it was parked in Megamall. I swear this car is jinxed coz it's had so many minor accidents, starting at the waiting area when some lil kid in a Lexus opened the rear door and smashed the City's left mirror barely three months after the car was bought, and the accidents just escalated after that, but of course the damage was repaired each time. I thought Japanese cars were supposed to be relatively tough, but unfortunately this one isnt as proven when the roof got dented by a falling mango!!!! Shoulda picked the Vios.

Freedom!
We're gonna make a video tomorrow after EST. Yes a VIDEO! We being me, Darrel, Khairin and a few other ppl. This time it'll be under a new 'producer', W-Hole Productions. Gonna be using two cameras for the different angles, and one of 'em is Khairin's full-HD JVC camcorder, so do check it out when we're done. Ok that's all for now.

Anyway i had my first bass lesson on friday, and it was great. Ken thought me the basics like scales and i picked it up pretty quickly. Can't wait to learn how to slap and pop...xD Can't say the same for the guitar session though...Alex told me that i wasnt picking the right way, though technically there isnt a right or a wrong way, its just that i wasnt doing it properly, which is why i had problems speed picking. So now i have to learn how to pick the proper way, and i have two choices: to either use my wrist(most popular) or my thumb(uses less energy, but harder to master), and as usual i can't decide...xD All this because my previous guitar teacher was so incompetent that he didnt even teach me the basics...not even how to pick the right way! If i had taken lessons from a proper teacher i would be so much better now, but anyway i've decided on bass as my main instrument while guitar as a side skill, but still...
Finals are in three weeks i have yet to start preparing...xD

Bass of Glory
Anyway today was a great day. Why? Because i have finally gotten my bass! I went to the guitar store when school ended to collect it...after four months of searching, comparing and pissing of store owners i have finally decided on the yamaha. I picked the yamaha because it was more versatile than the ibanez, being able to handle blues, jazz and rock while the ibanez was designed more as a rock bass. Still, i think i would've been happy with the ibanez as well...xD Some of you might look down on yamaha basses, saying that their not mainstream and that guitars and basses isnt yamaha's thing, but you're wrong: yamaha makes really good basses. Why else then would some of the world's best, like Dream Theatre's and Incubus' bassists use yamahas? This BB614 plays like a dream, its playability even beat Azri's rm4.5k LTD bass. I also got a 65 Watt Ibanez Soundwave amp, which sounds good but will probably be too big to carry around. The retail price of the bass was about rm2k but i managed to get it for 1.7...the amp at around rm800. The Gator hard case was about rm280 so i got everything for rm2780 which is quite a good deal.
Tuesday, August 21, 2007
Anyway i have resolved to get my bass by friday as that is when my bass lessons start. Estranged's ex-bassist, Ken will teaching me and that guy is a damn chunted bassist...xD I am currently having trouble deciding between two excellent basses, the Yamaha BB 614 and the Ibanez ATK 300. The ATK has a really punchy sound that i've never managed to get on any other bass i've tried(probably why ATK is short for Attack), a smaller body which means that it's slightly easier to play while sitting down, a unique triple coil pickup and cool vintage styling. From here the Ibanez would seem to be the obvious winner, but then it wouldn't be a fair test as i have not managed to test both basses with the same amp because they were in two different stores(they gave me an awesome SWR stack for this, while the yamaha only got a combo), which is what i'm trying to do now. The Yamaha of course fights back with a deeper and warmer low end, two pickups(split pole neck and soapbar bridge) and nicer looks(though these matter last). Fortunately i've decided on the amp: a 30 Watt Laney Richter bass amp, though i'd most probably go for the yamaha.

We left at around 7.30 with Trixie who so kindly picked me, Min Yan and Jien Yoong up and sent us back...xD
Class tests start this week and im not even prepared yet...over the weekend i've only managed to cover a measly 3 pages of Sejarah, mainly because i kept going to the fridge to get something to eat every five minutes. I'm screwed big time if my add maths and physices marks dont improve...my parents want me to get at least an 85 for everything, saying that 75 is too dangerous...sad...
Oh and i now have rm1.1k for the BTB...only 600 bucks left to go! Some say that Yamaha basses are better, and the best part is i can get a 20% discount for any one, so now i'm trying to decide between an Ibanez or a Yamaha. May the best bass win...xD

It was also a great day because i saw two Lamborghinis and two Skylines. Yes TWO LAMBORGHINIS. The first one was parked outside the hotel lobby. It was a silver Murcielago. According to kevin there are only three in malaysia. I first saw it when i went to get weng yee. It was still there when the whole thing was over. Kevin and i grew fanatical when we saw the rm2.5mil beauty parked in all its glory, so much that we wanted to touch it, but unfortunately the guard didnt let us. Well that was understandable. As kevin said, i the guy probably deliberately parked it right outside just to show off and amaze other ppl...and amazed they were. Almost everyone who saw it took pictures of it, kevin and i included. But then the funny thing was that the owner had put two red frilly cushions over the seats. What's the point of having all that fabulous leather when you're gonna put cushions over it?
Jon, chien wen, kevin, richard and aleena followed me after it ended. So there were seven of us squeezed into the Honda City. It was then that the golden Nissan Skyline zoomed past us, and me and kevin were like 'whoa'. I want one of those.
Later on the way to Digital Mall with my dad was when i saw the second lambo. This time it was a black Miura, i think, one of Lamborghini's earliest models produced in the sixties.
Then, parked in front of the mall was another one of those japanese legends. This time the Skyline was white. Four amazing cars in a day.
The rest of the week wasnt all that great. Since i managed to escape the bashing on my actual birthday, they decided to give me a 'double dose' the next day. And i ended up getting triple instead. Twice before lunch, and once after school. I didnt mind the first two, but it was the last one that did it. Not just because it was the most severe that had ever happened in my class, lying on the floor and getting kicked by more than six people, but mostly because the idiots smashed my Zen's screen and broke my headphones in the process. They only agreed to pay the rm200 for the headphones and after 'negotiating' asked me to check the price of a new screen, fair enough, if Creative even does repairs at all. If not then i need to get a new unit, and i'm sorry, its not rm1000, its rm1050. In Digital Mall, where all the electronics are cheaper. Even then not all of them agreed to pay for the screen. Their reason? I should've known that i was gonna get beaten up and should've taken out all my stuff. Not that i asked, or even agreed to getting bashed. And anyway i was too freaked out and was busy finding a way to escape to even remember having stuff in my pockets. I cant believe the principle acknowledges their 'reasons' for not wanting to pay up.
As if all this wasnt enough, my sister complained yesterday that the PC couldnt be started. So i opened the damn thing up and while i was peering inside dropped the hard drive about 15cm from my hands and into the innards of the PC. Seeing that it wasnt a serious drop i didnt think much of it. After all it should still work right? Wrong. I then went about mucking around with the PC and found that the power switch had a loose connection. After disconnecting the switch from the wires and touching them together the PC started right up. So then i thought that everything was alright, but then at the black screen with the windows xp logo the little blue thing that moved from left to right suddenly froze. And it remained like that for about fifteen minutes. Then i tried starting it in safe mode, which didnt work. This means that my dad has to send it back to Techdos to get it fixed, and meanwhile we'll be stuck with this laptop, which isnt bad but can only connect through dial-up because streamyx isnt installed on it. Aargh.
At least we have the field trip to look forward to on wednesday. And the best thing is i'm much closer to getting my BTB bass...i now have about rm1k! Only rm700 to go...xD

I've been reading a lot of gadget magazines for the past two years and most of them have some sorta top ten list for everything, especially Stuff mag: best PC, best laptop, best music player, best video player, best DVD player, best handphone, best home theatre system...everything, so here's my top ten list of gadgets(well at least half of them) that i want, but most likely cant afford...xD:
1) Ibanez BTB 400QM electric bass(rm1700)
2) Ibanez SA S36FM electric guitar(rm1750)
3) distortion pedal
4) bass amp
5) Line 6 75W Spider-III amp(rm1190)/ 60W Smarvo amp(rm895)

8) Altec Lansing MX5021 (rm540)

10) Nissan Skyline GTR R-34(rm180k++) xD

Apple iPod Video vs Creative Zen: Vision M
As we can see here, the Creative is so much better, so why bother getting an ipod at all? Of course, looks is a completely different issue here, but then functions should always be placed before form. So ppl, the next time you wanna get a new music and video player, get a Creative: Zen Vision M and forget the ipod...xD
Sunday, June 24, 2007
Ms Kalai found a pair of ipod headphones after PC ended on thursday and seeing that she didnt want them because of her fear of having ear infection she gave them to me. So now when i use them my Zen sounds like an ipod! All this while i thought the ipod's great, punchy sound came from within the player itself, but now i know its because of the headphones. Most ppl think that the headphones you use dont really make any difference, but they're wrong, it makes a HUGE difference especially in terms of bass and clarity. Most of the bundled stock earphones that come with music players arent really that good, with the exception of Sony's and ipod's, so you should always upgrade to a better pair of cans if possible. My dad got me this pair of Sony headphones i really wanted, the type with the silicon earbuds that you really insert deep into your ears, and the sound quality of this thing is great, there's plenty of bass, its really clear and well-balanced, but then it cost like 200 bucks! Of course, you get what you pay for though this is only mid-range, the high end ones, especially the ones from German makers like Sennheiser and Shure, which can go from rm400 to over 1k...xD

On a lighter note, today a bunch of us went to Zoo Negara as volunteers to help do some cleaning up. Most of us were from the Nature Society but there also others who participated. We were divided into mostly groups of 5 when we got there, but my group had 7: Chien Wen, Nabil, Jon, Leon, Aleena, Melissa and myself. Nabil wanted tigers, so we got to clean up the tiger's enclosure! What we did was mostly sweeping up dead leaves and packing them in bags. Then someone showed us the lions, male and female, as well as two cubs. When told they were 7 months old we pictured cubs the size of cats but they turned out to be 5-feet giants! We also got to see a tiger which was really tame, compared to the lions that acted like as though they wanted to eat us...here are some pix:

Mr Hafiz hasnt finished marking our bio papers yet...can you believe this guy? Tells us that he didnt want to do it during the holidays as he'll end up being really tired when school starts...what kinda lame excuse is that? He said on monday that he forgot to bring them...ooo...well its because he's only done with paper 1...nothing else to say about this...
Oh theres this video on youtube where a bunch of people collect donations for a brand new PS3, wait in line for like 12 hours during the launch, buy it and then smash it with a sledgehammer in front of everyone else in line...i think its really a waste but they say its some kinda social experiment...heres the link: smashmyps3
The dudes that did this also did the same thing to the Nintendo Wii at its launch: smashmywii
Enjoy! xD

While i was in ipoh my cousin lent her CSI DVDs to me so i spent most of my time watching them in my room. That kinda sums up what i did during the holidays, apart from the swimming lessons for which i had to wake up at 10 in the morning.
So its been pretty much waiting for my exam results to be revealed...got an A for everything so far except for physics, for which i got a B...honestly i think some of my answers are valid, only ms hoo just refuses to see my point! I only need 4 more marks to get an A...mr sera hasnt given us back our BM paper 2 marks yet even though he's had four weeks to mark them. Says that mr selvam is still checking them though i doubt that that's what's really happening. Mr Hafiz didnt come today as he was on leave and i really want to know my bio marks. Why does he always have to take leaves? Maybe as Chien Wen said, he got one eye only so must give handicap...xD

School's starting tomorrow.......
Tuesday, June 5, 2007
After lunch it was movie time! We had problems deciding what movie to watch, as usual. First it was 28 Weeks Later, but then we found out that wasnt released yet. I wanted to watch Next (the Nicholas Cage one), but then the next screening time was at 9pm!!! So we were left with Shrek 3 and POTC 3. Most of us had already watched Pirates 3 but were willing to watch it again, though i wanted something else. So we flipped my bass pick instead. Pirates 3 won. It wasnt as bad as i thought it would be, re-watching a 2.5++ hour movie, and Aleena was late as usual...xD. I think that's all we did, besides playing pool and foosball. Swimming and...urghh...yoga...again tomorrow...bummer.
Friday, June 1, 2007
I was browsing through this Sony catalogue just a while ago and saw that a 5.2 home cinema system actually existed! Imagine having two subwoofers...all that bass is gonna shake the walls during movie time! Cool...gonna have to persuade my parents to get a set no matter what...xD...Oh, the glory of twin woofers...

Happy 16th birthday Pui Yi.

The ex-3 Galileo outing was pretty much okay, except that one of has had to invite SOMEONE to come along. I'm not gonna say names, but i'm sure you know who that SOMEONE is. Ok, fair enough, i dont blame you for inviting him, you were just being nice, but then why HIM? He starts getting richard as his partner for some of the rides, leaving me partnerless. I dont mind being alone in a ride, but if it is because of that, then nooo way. Then he starts sucking up to the only person who was being nice to him, and when it came time to leave gets richard to follow him home. Come on man, are you really that DESPERATE? Fine, maybe i'm being a little harsh on him, sorry about that, but then he has to go and bring something up that has long been forgotten by most of us. When i start talking about the band competitions with Jon, particularly about band leaders, he starts saying something about him being the band leader and that we could've gotten in had it not been for some band members. I'm not complaining, but as a leader you should be the one organising everything and getting everything done, so i wonder why i was the one doing all that. Anyway, band prelims have long been over, are you still gonna keep ranting about how it was because of me that we didn't bag a position in the finals? Ok, i admit that was an error on my part, my out-of-tune-guitar that is, but i cant believe you actually thought we could GET IN. As trixie said, it was group effort. Its the participation and effort that counts. So please, get some rest and stop thinking about it, it's over. I'm gonna stop ranting about this now as i just wanna forget everything unpleasant, plus, ranting isnt a part of me.
As for the outing itself, i pretty much enjoyed it, though the prices have gone WAY UP, and you still have to pay for some of the rides, which is a rip-off considering the RM45 entrance fee, so it is NOT a good place to go for a holiday or an outing. Never again.
It was too bad that Nabil, Weng Yee and Jun Lin couldnt make it though, coz it woulda been more fun if they could. Nabil especially. That guy brings the life into a lot of our outings, sadly he was in Malacca at the time. Oh well.

Anyway in the cinema there was this family of annoying Indian people, and they were seated right behind us. There were these 3 indian kids, and before the show had even started those brothers started fighting on who gets to sit where. And when they finally managed to sort things out, they started eating a hot dog. A hot dog. I mean, how can you bring a HOT DOG and start EATING it in the cinema? The thing really stank, so throughout the first half hour we had to endure the stench of those things. The father wasn't any better, finishing one off himself. As though that wasn't bad enough, the kids started laughing. LOUD. And somewhere in the middle of the show, one started crying. And remember, they were seated right BEHIND us. Throughout the show some of them were KICKING our seats. Father included. Come on, you're the daddy, how can you actually do these kinda things? In front of your KIDS. If you can't even train your kids to behave outside, buy a DVD and watch it inside the house. Better yet, if you can't handle kids, next time use a CONDOM. Saves everything.
Ok mom's calling, gtg.

I'm kinda in a small 'crisis' now though. Cant decide whether to get a new guitar, a bass or an amp first. My current Ibanez has a fret board so uneven that you can hear the strings buzzing and 'rattling' all the time. Jon told me to raise the action, while the guy at the Guitar Store says they can even the fret board out for me. I think its best to just get a newer, better guitar, though i'm kinda starting to like playing bass. The amp can wait, so which is it? Guitar or bass? Decisions...decisions...oh well...i guess i can check it out during the holidays. My budget: somewhere between 1-1.7k.
Oh well. Thats all for today. Ciao.
